Join artist and performer Zack Mennell for a thought-provoking and participatory workshop
rooted in the themes of their acclaimed project (para)site – a deeply personal and politically
charged exploration of class, queerness, disability, and belonging, set against the backdrop of
the industrialised Thames and lived experiences of medicalisation and social marginalisation.
This workshop invites participants to reflect on how we occupy space – physically, culturally, and
psychologically – and how we might reclaim that space through experimental creative practice.
Drawing on elements of performance, writing, object-making, and storytelling, Zack will guide
you through a process of making temporary interventions, expressing hidden narratives, and
using creative tools to amplify voices often left unheard.
Inspired by psycho-geographic journeys, river ecologies, and the residue of urban life,
participants will engage with the idea of “cultural sewage” – the overlooked, discarded, or
repressed – and consider how art can uncover meaning in the mess.
Open to anyone interested in art as activism, embodied storytelling, or working with the
personal and political, no experience is necessary – just openness, reflection, and a
willingness to engage.
