Founded in 2004 (formerly known as Impetuous Kinship), Arts Outburst has been co-creating art and cultural projects with the people of Thurrock (and beyond) for almost 20 years! In 2023, we were lucky enough to join Arts Council England’s National Portfolio, which has changed the game for us. With core funding secured for three years, it means we can plan, develop and deliver even more great arts projects for everyone in Thurrock and South Essex to enjoy.

We’ve got something for everyone to take part in from FAMILY FIESTAS for early years children and their families, to our flagship MAKE SOME PROGRAMME for children and young people to be able to explore their own creativity, through to our TROUPE and SQUAD programmes aimed at Adults who are looking to do something creative with their spare time. And that is just for starters, so jump on in and explore what we have for you to do and get involved in!
Stephen PembleProject Manager
Stephen has over 15 years’ experience in theatre and live events. He began his career at The Broadway Theatre, Barking, where he studied and worked for five years as part of the technical team. He then moved to London as a Technical Sales and Hire Advisor with Stage Electrics before returning to Essex to join The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch. During his eight years there, he progressed from Theatre Technician to Head of Lighting and Technical Manager. Stephen later moved into London’s West End, serving as Deputy Head of Lighting on Operation Mincemeat and Head of Lighting on SIX the Musical.
Alongside his technical and management work, Stephen is an award-nominated Lighting Designer. His designs span professional theatre productions, interactive installations, and large-scale outdoor light shows, showcasing both creativity and technical precision.
With more than a decade of project management experience, Stephen has produced and delivered a wide variety of events, from sell-out Murder Mystery productions to cabaret nights and immersive theatre. Passionate about the arts in all its forms, he continues to bring innovation, expertise, and leadership to every project he undertakes.
Marcia CarrHead of Projects & Operations
Marcia Carr is a highly experienced performer, vocal coach, and theatre-maker. She trained at Royal Holloway (University of London) and is a qualified Feldenkrais Practitioner specialising in ‘tuning bodies’ for performance. Marcia is an Examiner and former Deputy Chief Examiner for LAMDA and an Associate Artist with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
As a performer, Marcia has toured nationally and internationally, winning and being nominated for several awards including Best Fringe Performer (Manchester Evening Standard) and Best Actor (Buxton Festival). Her directing and coaching credits span theatres and universities across the UK and internationally, with highlights including vocal coaching for NYT’s REP seasons, Chichester Festival Theatre, and directing at UWL’s London College of Music.
Marcia is also an accomplished academic and practitioner, delivering workshops, lectures, and masterclasses at institutions such as East 15, Central School of Speech and Drama, Goldsmiths, and international schools. She has published a chapter on Feldenkrais practice with Bloomsbury Press. Her work reflects a deep commitment to nurturing talent and advancing creative performance practice.
Daryl BranchArtistic Director & CEO
Born and bred in Thurrock, Daryl is Artistic Director & CEO of Arts Outburst and has worked as an actor, director, producer and teacher in the arts for over 20 years. He trained at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and up until Arts Outbursts successful application to join the Arts Council’s National Portfolio, led Crawley’s Creative Playground, a Creative People and Places programme; and spent ten years at Studio 3 Arts, most recently as Executive Director. Daryl is currently studying at the University of Wolverhampton for an MBA in Senior Cultural Leadership.
Daryl believes passionately that everyone should have access to the best arts and cultural experiences, no matter who they are, what their background is or where they come from.
Jordan LandonAdmin & Comms Officer
Jordan is our admin and communications officer here at Arts Outburst, where she keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes while also helping our creative voice reach the community!
She discovered Arts Outburst through our Words and Music nights, and is now proud to play a part in supporting the creative energy that first inspired her. While she doesn’t come from a professional arts background, Jordan is a keen singer and passionate about the power of the arts to connect people, tell stories, and spark change.
Ellie PayneProject Officer
Ellie is an Essex/London-based music professional with a rich and varied background spanning performance, live events, and artist development. As both a vocalist and vocal coach, she brings technical expertise and creative intuition to every project she takes on. She is the founder of LiveWorks Presents, a live events company dedicated to curating and managing grassroots music nights that spotlight emerging talent. Her experience also includes working with major industry players such as Live Nation, where she gained hands-on insight into live music operations at large-scale festivals. In addition to her work in events and performance, Ellie is an experienced music educator, mentoring young artists as they build confidence, develop their skills, and take their first steps into the industry. With her broad skill set and deep industry knowledge, Ellie has a sharp eye for talent and a strong understanding of what it takes for artists to thrive in today’s music landscape.
Amy MellowsSenior Project Officer
Graduating from the University of Exeter’s Drama department with a 1st in 2020, Amy is an experienced creative freelance artist, facilitator and theatre-maker from Havering. She is now the Senior Project Officer for Arts Outburst, running Make Some Noise’s drama groups, wellbeing creative clubs and is the Director of our Creative Development Programme Troupe. She also works as a Director, Storyteller, Performer, Host, Radio presenter and Video Editor. Amy has a particular interest in Experimental, Immersive, Political, Intermedial/interactive/media-based theatre, performance and art & applied/socially engaged arts practice, queer theory & human rights activism. Amy recently worked on You Me Bum Bum Train’s latest immersive production and has lots of experience in community arts producing and theatre in education. Amy’s experiences as a working-class female artist from an under-represented low socio-economic background, working in the arts and digital practice field, have led her to advocate the importance of diversity and inclusion in access to theatre practice.
Charlotte TrowerProject Manager
Charlotte Trower is an Arts Facilitator, Community Producer and trained mindfulness, meditation and sound healing practitioner based in Havering, but also spans across East London & Essex. Combining her artistic practice with holistic approaches, Charlotte creates spaces where under-represented communities can connect and thrive. She is Co-Director of Well Social CIC, which runs a thriving community garden in Dagenham East, blending creativity, wellbeing and connection through nature. Charlotte’s work blends supper clubs, co-created artworks with communities and large-scale participatory projects with organisations such as the National Trust, Havering Arts Council and Mind. A Fine Art graduate, she is passionate about using art and mindfulness to nurture community, inclusion and collective wellbeing.
Laurel JumeauProject Officer
Laurel is an artist and musician from Thurrock, known for her playful and expressive approach to songwriting and performance. Her music blends storytelling, spoken word, rap, and vocals. She draws inspiration from her working class background and everyday life. Using a mix of instruments and voice, Laurel creates songs that are both personal and relatable, full of honesty and character. Having studied ‘’Music & Sound Design” Laurel is experienced in music production and recording.
Having trained for over a decade at Creative Blast Performing Arts Academy, Laurel built strong foundations in theatre and performance before finding her true passion in music. As one half of the band ‘Jumeaux’, she has performed widely across Essex and London, bringing energy and authenticity to every stage.
Laurel is passionate about people and community, and her outgoing nature makes her a natural collaborator. She has worked with individuals from all walks of life through local arts projects and workshops, using creativity as a tool for connection and self-expression. Alongside her musical work, she also explores film, fashion design, and visual art.
Ajay PabialProject Co-ordinator
Ajay Pabial is a renowned social entrepreneur and artist, celebrated for his transformative work across public, private, and third sectors to empower underrepresented young Londoners in breaking into the creative industry. As the founder and CEO of Art Clubbers CIC, an award-winning arts organization, Ajay leads groundbreaking programs that promote diversity, inclusion, and access for marginalized communities, including Global Majority, LGBTQ+, and working-class youth. His innovative leadership has earned Art Clubbers CIC a nomination for the Small Awards’ Mission Possible Award and positioned it as a leader in the UK’s cultural sector.
Ajay’s contributions to business and the arts have been widely recognized, including his nomination for Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe 2024. A TEDx speaker and sought-after voice at international summits, he speaks passionately about community building, creativity, and representation. His work has been featured on prestigious platforms such as Christie’s London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Old Vic, UAL universities, and Tate.
As a Civic Futures Fellow, Ajay collaborated with the Greater London Authority on city recovery initiatives, reflecting his commitment to fostering equitable access to the creative sector. His advocacy also extends to roles such as board member at We Create Space CIC, emphasizing LGBTQ+ well-being, and recognition by Pride in London as one of 52 dynamic LGBT+ visual artists.
Lee JarvisProjects Support Officer
Lee is our Project Support Officer, having recently completed an Apprenticeship with Arts Outburst. He started his apprenticeship as a Cultural, Learning and Participation Officer in April 2023. Before coming to Arts Outburst, Lee completed a course in Creative Media & Production at college, where he gained his passion for photography and often takes photographs of Arts Outburst’ events. Lee also volunteers with St John’s Ambulance where he helps teach children aged 5-10 years old.

Running an event or workshop, leading a class or need a space for a meeting or a rehearsal? Then at Arts Outburst we can help. We have a number of spaces on the 2nd Floor of the Thameside Complex, that are fully accessible that can be hired for a variety of uses. ARTIST DEVELOPMENT
If you are an artist that lives in Thurrock or South Essex, we have made a commitment to support you.

You can join the Thurrock CAN network, where we offer you the opportunity to link up with other local creatives and find out about what creative opportunities there are for you locally.

If you need a space to rehearse, we will do our best to offer you that for free. We are also looking at other training and development opportunities that we can offer you.

We are also committed to providing work opportunities for local creative freelancers as much as we possibly can.
