As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, Arts Outburst works across Thurrock and beyond to create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to make, experience and participate in outstanding arts and culture. Every year, our programmes engage thousands of people through festivals, performances, youth projects, artist development opportunities, health and wellbeing initiatives and community-led creative experiences.
We’re now looking for an experienced Project Manager to help us deliver and develop this exciting programme of work.
About the Role
The Project Manager will play a central role within our team, working closely with the Artistic Director, Head of Projects & Operations, artists, partners and communities to ensure the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of creative projects.
From large-scale festivals and outdoor events to youth engagement programmes, artist development initiatives and community participation projects, this role offers the chance to work across a broad range of activity and make a meaningful contribution to the cultural life of Thurrock.
The successful candidate will oversee project planning, delivery and evaluation, manage budgets and partnerships, coordinate artists and freelancers, support marketing and audience development activity, and help ensure projects are delivered to the highest possible standard.
No two days are ever the same. One day you might be supporting artists preparing for a major public event, the next developing partnerships with local organisations, overseeing project budgets, coordinating volunteers or helping shape the future direction of an exciting new programme.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with experience of successfully managing arts, cultural or community projects and a passion for creative participation.
You’ll have:
- At least three years’ project management experience within the arts, culture or community sectors
- Experience of working with artists, communities, volunteers and partner organisations
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Experience of managing budgets, monitoring and evaluation processes
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A commitment to inclusion, accessibility and community engagement
- A passion for using creativity to make a positive difference
Experience of multi-artform projects, marketing and communications, partnership development and knowledge of South Essex would be advantageous.

Location
This is a full-time, office and community-based role located in Thurrock. Regular attendance at Arts Outburst venues, project locations and partner sites is required.
Some evening and weekend working will be necessary to support programme delivery and events. Time off in lieu (TOIL) will be provided in accordance with organisational policy.
